New tech

I am an innovator. I literally froth at the mouth when i hear about new tech. I was caught iPad fever hard.

This video and ones like it do all kinds of things to my wallet. Glancing around my home i see a variety of high def audio visual equipment as well as gaming systems and computing. I've covered an entire wall in computer components ranging from Motherboards to RAM, a memento to past PCs I've built and decommissioned. I am a tech junkie with infinite channels of information at my fingertips. (or in some cases voice command) so how can you market towards people like me?

Well give me data, pictures, let me interact with your product. I want to see interfaces, i wantot know special features, i want to see the crossover potential. If I'm buying a smartphone i want it to handle everything my laptop can and so much more. Show me a slick customisable interface and you've got yourself a sale.

Innovators don't care about slick ads, of course they may be entertained by them but the drive to purchase wont be swayed in a significant way. Innovators want a tangible experience even for intangible products. Let me envision what life will be like with it. Google's Nexus One website is an excellent example.

The 3D tour and ability to click and demo apps almost drove me to a buying frenzy; it was all i could think of as my mobile phone contract was coming to a close. However innovators are savvy shoppers, I poured over dozens of youtube videos and probably close to a hundred review articles. The verdict? It's has major flaws. Shame. But lessons can be learned from this. Google did not address any of the major talking points about the Nexus One, whereas apple promised (and delivered) fixes for the original iPhone OS, there has been little or no definitive communication from Google's tech arm about various issues.

Overall there is a simple message here. A startlingly simple one actually. When selling to innovators, make tech to cornerstone of your marcomms. Should be easy right? Right?! That's the trouble with innovators, keeping up with them.
